SLK-Class 2011-2016

At a glance

With its fully automatic two-piece vario-roof and arresting proportions, the aspirational SLK-Class combines the engaging driving qualities of an athletic coupé with the sybaritic pleasures of roadster motoring, backed up by Mercedes-Benz’ peerless driver-assist and safety technologies. The UK-specific line-up comprises eight models, and offers drivers the choice of diesel or petrol power, automatic or petrol transmissions, and standard or AMG Sport trim levels. The range is topped by the Mercedes-AMG SLK 55.

Generous standard equipment

All SLK-Class models are fitted with an extensive array of standard equipment, with highlights including: 17-inch alloy wheels; Audi 20 sound system with Bluetooth® connectivity; climate control; a flat-bottomed three-spoke multi-function sports steering wheel trimmed with nappa leather; sports seats; pre-wiring for Becker® Map Pilot navigation system; brushed aluminium trim; ECO start/stop; chromed tailpipes and LED daytime lights and rear lights.

AMG Sport trim

Opting for AMG Sport trim adds a raft of dynamic enhancements including: 18-inch five-spoke AMG alloy wheels; AMG bodystyling; headlamps with dark surrounds and dark-tinted tail lights, perforated front brake discs and brake calipers with ‘Mercedes‑Benz’ lettering, 10 mm lowered sports suspension; instrument cluster with chequered flag design; leather upholstery, and red seat belts with complementary red top-stitching on seats, steering wheel and gear shift gaiter.

Diesel or petrol, manual or automatic

The SLK is available with the choice of two petrol variants and – for the first time in the history of the SLK-Class – a turbodiesel engine. The petrol-powered SLK 200 and SLK 350 are powered by a turbocharged 1,991 cc four-cylinder unit. The SLK 250 d is powered by a punchy and refined biturbo 2,143 cc diesel engine. The SLK 200 is available with slick six-speed manual or 9G-Tronic Plus 9-speed automatic transmissions, while the SLK 250 and SLK 250 d come with 9G-Tronic Plus 9-speed automatic transmission as standard.

A roof for all seasons

The advanced two-piece metal vario-roof features a lightweight magnesium frame and uprated electronic mechanism that converts the two-seater from roof-up coupé to open-topped roadster at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. It is available is three formats – the standard vario-roof, the option of the transparent Panoramic vario-roof, and the Panoramic vario-roof featuring the Mercedes-Benz Magic Sky Control system, which allows the light and heat intensity in the cabin to be varied at the touch of a button. To further enhance the roadster’s roof-down appeal, drivers can opt for the innovative Airscarf neck-level heating feature and the Airguide pivoting transparent wind deflectors that significantly reduce in-cabin buffeting.

Excellent versatility – roof up or down

Boot capacity with the roof raised is 335 litres compared to 300 litres in the outgoing model. With the roof retracted, this drops to 225 litres including 51 litres of luggage box capacity under the boot’s reversible floor - a useful 17 litres up on the outgoing model and an impressive 80 litres over the original SLK-Class.

Unparalleled safety

All models in the SLK-Class line-up feature class-leadings levels of safety and driver assistance features. Highlights include: Attention Assist, Adaptive Brake, Pre-Safe®, Neck-Pro active head restraints and Active Bonnet are all fitted as standard, backed up by six airbags and the latest generation of anti-lock braking, traction, stability and skid reduction systems. Further optional safety elements include Distronic Plus with BAS Plus and Pre-Safe® Brake, Intelligent Light System and Speed Limit Assist.

The SLK-Class has a length x width x height of 4,134 x 2,006 x 1,301 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,430 mm. Kerb weights vary from 1,435 kg to 1,590 kg.
