Dynamic and stylish, the striking C-Class Coupé combines arresting design, advanced direct-injection engine technology and sophisticated driver assistance systems to create one of the executive sector’s most desirable compact coupés. The eight-strong model range is powered by punchy turbo-charged petrol and diesel engines with six-speed manual or 7G-Tronic Plus seven-speed automatic transmissions, and drivers have the choice of luxurious Executive SE or muscular AMG Sport Edition trims.
Executive SE models are generously equipped with the following standard equipment; 16-inch alloy wheels; Artico leather; Audio 20 sound system with DAB digital radio; ILS Intelligent Light System with bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights and Adaptive High Beam Assist; Sporty seats; Parktronic with Parking Guidance; Split-folding rear seats; Agility Control suspension with Adaptive Damping System; LED rear tail lights; rain-sensing wipers and automatic climate control.
This adds 18-inch AMG alloy wheels; AMG bodystyling and boot spoiler mats; sports suspension; AMG Sports pedals; AMG sports seats in Artico leather and Dinamica microfibre with grey and blue stitching; AMG sports steering wheel; Grey stitching on door panels, armrest and gear shift gaiter, and dark brushed aluminium trim.
The all-alloy 1,595 cc petrol engine that powers the C 180 Coupé features turbo-charging, direct injection with electronically-controlled spray-guided combustion and ECO stop/start. With the help of an injector, the fuel is injected into the cylinders at an angle of 30 degrees and, depending on the engine operating characteristics, at a pressure of up to 140 bar. The C 180 Coupé is available with either a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission or responsive 7G-Tronic Plus seven-speed automatic transmission
The diesel engines fitted to the new C-Class – a 1,598 cc unit in the C 200 BlueTEC and a 2,143 cc unit in the C 220 BlueTEC and C 250 BlueTEC all feature turbo-charged induction and latest-generation common-rail technology. Refinement-enhancing features include two Lanchester balancer shafts, markedly longer connecting rods both help reduce friction and a dual-mass flywheel. ECO stop/start is fitted as standard.
The C-Class Coupé’s incredibly robust and ultra-stiff two-door chassis has been engineered to absorb and distribute impact forces to keep the passenger safety cell fully intact in even the most severe of impacts. Around 70 per cent of all the bodyshell panels are made from high-strength steel alloys that maximise safety as well as help reduce kerb weight.
All models in the C-Class Coupé range are fitted with Agility Control suspension with Adaptive Damping System as standard, ensuring the MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension always delivers the optimal balance between ride comfort and agility. In keeping with its sporting remit, the Coupé benefits from uprated springs and dampers as well as thicker anti-roll bars front and rear. Combined with direct and accurate rack and pinion steering with speed-sensitive hydraulically assistance and an all-disk brake set-up – the front discs are internally ventilated for greater stopping power - the Coupé rewards the keen driver with a honed athleticism and engaging agility.
Mercedes-Benz has packed the C-Class Coupé with the most sophisticated active and passive safety technology currently available. As well as the award-winning Pre-Safe® anticipatory safety system and the Attention Assist driver fatigue monitoring programme, all models are fitted with Anti-lock braking with Brake Assist, Adaptive Brake System, a full complement of seven airbags, Electronic Stability Programme with Acceleration Skid Control, Active Bonnet that significantly increases pedestrian impact safety levels, and an advanced tyre pressure loss warning system.
The C-Class Coupé has a length x width x height of 4,633 x 1,997 x 1,391 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,760 mm. Kerb weights range from 1,490 to 1,660 kg, and boot capacity is 450 litres.
